Artist Statement

I think of my work as fragments of personal experience that include textile forms,both 2D and 3D,drawing and printmaking including intalgio and monoprints.

For me, this process invokes the idea of a metaphorical archaeological site in which the constructed and the ready made are used to interrogate personal life experiences through place and time.

 

My recent work is referenced through the lens of 17th century artistic concepts of Vanitas: Memento Mori through which I explore the concept of life’s journey. To interrogate these ideas,I use symbolic imagery including birds and feathers to represent freedom and hope.

 

Another re-occuring theme in my work  are the beautiful volcanic structures of my  local landscape which fascinate and engage me in an ongoing exploration.

Australian artists Ex de Medici, Fiona Hall, Louise Saxton and Sally Smart provide a contemporary reference in the conceptual framing of the work.
